A gentle giant, Grug was the name of a mutated soldier who fought in both world wars. He was originally a normal human, whose name has unfortunately been lost to history. He was experimented on by the British special science division of the war office. Grug was given an enhanced physique, enlarging his height by several feet, and increasing is muscle mass tenfold. His skin was also thickened and hardened by the process, meaning bullets ricocheted off of him like they were nothing, and larger firepower such as cannons or tank shells having an effect as small as slowing him down, never stopping him. There was an unforeseen consequence of the experiments, that being that his brain shrank significantly, reducing the service area exponentially, and leaving him with the brain capacity of a particularly gifted infant. This had left him quick to aggression, and lacking critical thinking skills, meaning he sometimes needed to be "piloted" in combat, by a soldier riding his back inside of a specially designed backpack, from which a soldier could shout commands into his ears to command him.

Originally used for the purposes of digging trenches in his early career during the First World War, Grug was eventually selected for a position on the front line after his commanding officer was saved by him during a German raid, in which Grug single-handedly repelled the attackers after they shelled the trench he had been digging, angering him. During the aftermath of this raid, a rage-filled Grug pushed the front line several miles into the German territory, breaking a stalemate which had lasted months.

Between the world wars, Grug was kept in captivity in a government facility from which he was experimented upon in an attempt to replicate and perfect the process which created him in the first place, however, this exercise proved fruitless.

In the second world war, Grug was deployed in France after the initial D-Day invasion. On one fateful mission, Grug's squad was sent to liberate a French village which had been deemed of tactical importance. Due to Grug's presence, the German forces were unable to put up much resistance against the unstoppable beast. Once the dust had settled, the Allied forces discovered that the village had already been mostly evacuated prior to the German invasion, however, there was one local left behind. A young boy had been abandoned by his family, left in the old family home while the rest of his family escaped, and during the fighting, Grug had peeled the roof off of his house to use as a shield, protecting the boy from harm but ultimately leaving him homeless.

The squad took the boy with them to protect him and hopefully deliver him to local authorities. Grug began to develop a close bond with the boy, as, despite the language barrier, Grug could relate to the boys' feelings of abandonment, as well as their similar mental age meaning they got along together. As the squad moved through the French countryside, they came under attack from a German tank column, as the German high command had deemed Grug too great of a target to be left alive. During the fighting, the boy was hit in the crossfire and bled to death. Grug entered a rage state like had had in the previous war, rampaging across the French countryside and through the German forces. When he returned to Allied territory, his commanding officer made the mistake of belittling the boys' death. In his anger, Grug picked up his commanding officer by his arms and pulled the man in half, brutally killing him. Grug was arrested and court-martialed for his crimes, facing a firing squad, which was unable to kill him.

The depressing solution of those in charge was command Grug to conduct one last mission. They ordered him to begin digging, as deep as he could. They left him to dig for 3 days, until no one could see him or the bottom of the hole he was digging, despite the continued stream of debris being thrown from the bottom. On the passing of the third day, the debris was pushed back into the hole, burying Grug somewhere in the Earth's crust. Although the body was never recovered, it is assumed Grug was killed due to either suffocation, starvation or dehydration.
