The inhuman spider (real name: Grant Bedford) was a fat nerdy kid who loved comic books and got bullied regularly, wanting desperately to attain superpowers. Upon the death of his grandmother, he used his inheritance to travel to South America and he tried to get bitten by as many spiders as possible. When his unconscious body was found, he was transported to the hospital where he was resuscitated at given the antidotes to the many, many poisons that had entered his system. Realising that superpowers would not come from the natural world, Grant resorted to science.

He broke into a nuclear power plant and dived into a vat of nuclear waste. The waste immediately began to break down his body, but the remaining spider toxins in his system began to break down also. His cell structure broke down but began to reconstitute itself when he climbed out of the vat, and miraculously, he gained spider powers.

He did not gain the "spider-man" style powers he expected, however. He gained enhanced vision, allowing him to see further and also at night. He also gained the ability of ant mimicry, which allows spiders to act as ants to escape from predators and better find prey, although this power is useless to him as he is much too large to convincingly mimic an ant in the eyes of most. He did gain the ability of long jumping, able to jump 50 times his body height. He also grew 4 additional limbs between his hips and his armpits, two on each side, however, these are the size of spider limbs, and only capable of lifting the zipper limit of a spider's limb strength, not that of a human.

He uses his 'super powers' to fight crime, but he often finds himself resorting to his arsenal of weaponry, including his 'arachnid-crowbar'. The arachnid crowbar is a standard 600mm crowbar that Grant spray painted red, and has used in several assaults on criminals and one murder.
